Loraine Tarrant

Obituary of Loraine P. Tarrant

Loraine P. Tarrant, 85, of Columbia, South Carolina passed away March 7, 2024, Life Care Center of Columbia, South Carolina. She was born on August 4, 1938, in Grays, Kentucky to the late Crit and Ada (Blankenship) Perry.

Loraine was strong in her Christian Faith.  She attended church faithfully until her health made it impossible to meet with other Christians. Through all of her adversities, her faith did not waiver. Loraine loved her family.  She enjoyed Christmas most of all.  It was her favorite holiday and she relished showering her family with gifts and sharing the love she shared with them.  When she was not working, she enjoyed gardening, especially growing vegetables (tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers) and was able to grow some of the most beautiful flowers you can imagine.  Loraine was also a fervent NASCAR fan with a whole room dedicated to her favorite drivers and events.  She was also a huge Clemson and professional football fan.  She will be missed by those she loved and those that loved her.

Loraine is survived by her daughter, Lesa M. Butcher, her granddaughters: Tiffany P. Butcher, and Katy Tubberville (Carl), and her precious great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Roger Perry (Carolyn) and sisters: Diane Adler (Tom), and Linda Bishop (Bill). Loraine also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins to treasure her memory.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Travis A. Tarrant, a son, Bruce Tarrant, a twin sister, Agnes Wheeler, sisters, Bobbie Jean Calvert, brothers, Ancil Perry and Edward Perry.

The family will receive friends in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, from 2:00PM until 3:00PM with a short eulogy to be read following the family visitation. A private burial at Fort Jackson National Cemetery will be held as schedules permit.  In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
