Sue Svigel-Browder

Obituary of Sue Svigel-Browder

To have known Sue was to love her. As we lay her to rest... my spouse, mommy, grandma, mawmaw, aunt, sister and friends to many. She will always be close to our hearts. Born November 19,1945 in Harmon, Virginia and resided in Hopkins, SC, where she was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Sue went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 8, 2024. She was married to her loving husband, James A. Browder Jr. for 12 years. James was very proud to be a pop, and pawpaw to Sue’s girls and grandchildren. Sue loved singing in the church choir and being involved with her church family. Sue worked for Mentor in her earlier years and took in many foster children who were abused. She loved to work and help with children in need. Sue was the daughter of the late Dawson Lester and Cora.

Preceding her in death was her first husband of 41 years, Joseph K Svigel. They have 3 daughters: Jolene Ayer and her husband, Tommy; Samantha Ford and her husband, Burt; and Jackie Sawyer. They were all blessed with 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She is survived by her sisters, Rena Covington and Devra Lackey (Tal), and is preceded in death by her two brothers, Gerald Lester and Dean Lester.

The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia SC, 29209 on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, from 6:00PM until 8:00PM.
